This is a place where curious rememberings start to happen.
When we remember that this world is enchanted and so are we.
Choose between a four-bedroom house and a one-bedroom cedar cottage. Both have access to the lush English kitchen garden and brick courtyard, with views of a barn and horse pasture. The House Kinlands acreage is minutes from the Pacific Coast and is a beloved spot for birding year-round.
The Land.
If you’re like us, you come for the land just as much as the home. House Kinlands won’t disappoint. Surrounded by the magical fog of the Washington coast, the property boasts 30 acres of intentional wild. The sounds of nature will wake you in the morning and we anticipate that you’ll spend hours on the patio watching the swooping birds.
The Experience.
A guide to House Kinlands homestays in each season.
SPRING
Watch the apple trees blossom and the ferns unfurl. Wake your taste buds with a nibble of fresh rhubarb in the morning — and later, muddle some into an herbaceous cocktail.
Hike the Oyster Dome near Bellingham for a view of San Juan Island, or take a ferry to the islands themselves for birdwatching and picnicking near fields of lavender.
And if you’re here in April, don’t miss the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
SUMMER
Pick herbs fresh from the kitchen garden. Taste the strawberries, blueberries, and wild raspberries. Discover the nearby slough, where you might glimpse an otter or beaver peeking back at you or spot a wood duck or marsh wren nearby. If you’re craving an oceanside hike, it’s a short drive to Padilla Bay. And if you’re here in August, be sure to catch the Samish Island salmon run.
AUTUMN
Autumn brings apples from the tree and changing leaves at House Kinlands. Honor the season with a trip to nearby Edison for Breadfarm’s legendary pumpkin cupcakes (the very thing that first drew us to the Valley of Bow). Or venture to Gordon Skagit Farms in Mount Vernon for pressed cider and gourds that look as if they were plucked from a fairy tale. If you’re looking for a day trip, head to La Conner to spend an afternoon shopping. While you’re there, try Coa for exceptional Mexican food.
WINTER
This is Jen's favorite season, when the land really shows its ancient roots. Winter brings hundreds of bird species to the Skagit Valley. See snow geese by the hundred thousands, trumpeter swans, bald eagles, hawks of all kinds, ducks, and every bird in between. Alternatively, have a pint down the road at The Corner Pub and hunt for treasures at The Red Door Antiques. Or unplug and disappear into a weekend of herbal bath soaks and walks along the rarely-traveled road.
